Asked the other day what we thought was the latest trend in wall-coverings, the answer was unanimously and resoundingly “ Murals”.
Although hardly new, the fantastic variety now available has seen them soar in popularity, with lots of established designers now having added mural options to their wallpaper offerings.
Esta Home – Street Map Numbers
We’re all familiar with wallpaper and how its patterns repeat themselves horizontally and vertically.
With murals however– largely thanks to the development of digital technology, pattern repetition can be avoided altogether.

In most instances a mural is a large image made up of a series of matching panels. Like wallpaper, it’s delivered as a number of separate rolls, but each roll is different to the next, and when hung together the panels create one large picture.
There are no standard sizes, some images are completed in 2 panels, others require several more. And increasingly the images are being custom printed to fit your space, with certain brands even offering visual mock-ups for your specific dimensions.
Rebel Walls Factory Window
The range of images is fantastically diverse from maps, landscapes, collages, textures, and photographs to abstract patterns. There is quite literally something for everyone, for nurseries, teens, and every age beyond.
Cole & Son Circus [Anja Brighouse home]
